The Warrior Image

I was reading Your Body Speaks Your Mind: Decoding the Emotional, Psychological, and Spiritual Messages that Underlie Illness by Deb Shapiro this morning and during the section on reproductive organs (and masculinity and femininity) a beautiful ideology of the warrior was presented. I love this image. It is what I would like to one day emulate in my own life and even though it was presented in the "masculine" section I think it could actually be a helpful archetype for both men and women. The comments in parenthesis are my thoughts.

From page 277: "Throughout history, however, there has been an image of the warrior-- the fearless yet tender-hearted male (I think person would be a better term) who is in balance with both his masculine and feminine energies, with both strength and tenderness, wisdom and compassion. Here the qualities of masculinity are not dependent on competition, aggression or exerting power, but on the protection and care of all being equally. The warrior is fearless, not by pretending he feels no fear but by accepting his fear; through acknowledging his weaknesses he gains his strength. The warrior is one who knows the depths of his own heart and feels the pain of all beings-- none are rejected, denied, or abused."

That is the kind of person I want to be. Honestly, reading it made me tear-up a little because things I consider beautiful or inspiring sometimes make me cry. Lol.

Anyway, I wanted to share it.

Have a great day.
