Personal Power in a Tumultuous Time

When I was in High School, I wrote down inspirational quotes and read them whenever I needed some light to help me get through the darkness that I was going through. When I was thinking about this post one of those quotes came back to my head:
“I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do the something that I can do.” -- Edward Everett Hale
The world today looks pretty volatile. This has been predicted for a long time, and not just by energy readers or psychics. Many fields that look at patterns have predicted for decades that we were moving into a period of greater unrest. There is a need for a change in social structure and with any change there are periods of chaos during the transitions. It can be unnerving to be part of the widescale changes as they are unfolding now and it can be unsettling to feel powerless amidst in the tumult.
Even though you might feel small next to everything taking place, now is a really important time to remember that you are not powerless. These moments of large transition are when digging in and remembering the role that you do play becomes most important, because the truth is we all have power. We all have the opportunity to live out the values that we believe in and work towards the future that we want. In these periods when the future is in a state of flux what we chose to align with makes an even bigger difference.
As humans we are creative beings and every bit of our lives is a creation. We create the kind of world we believe in with our thoughts, words, and actions. How we live our lives is our greatest power and no one can tell you what the best way to do that is. Knowing that our personal power is carried out through the way that we live our lives and not in any single aspect of our life alone, the question becomes what we can we do with the power we have to create the world that we want to see? Whatever you choose to do does not need to be big or revolutionary, but ideally it would be in line with your beliefs and desires. It is a really good time to remember not to let the volatility swallow you up and cause you to lose sight of yourself or your beliefs. Knowing that you cannot do everything, think about what you can do and remember the power in taking care of those things. They might appear small, but they are meaningful.
There is another quote I have been hearing lately. It is a bible verse that I know is taken out of context, but somehow it seems to fit. It comes from Mark 12:17 :
“Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.”
The way that this is explained to me in the context of today is that there are daily tasks, commitments, and limitations that we face. We still live in this society, in this physical life, and in the outcome of all that has come before it. We do not need to rebel forcefully against everything, giving to Caesar what is Caesar's was a reference to paying taxes. It could be understood the same way today, but “give to God what is God’s” refers to the higher laws. You don’t have to believe in the Christian God to apply this. This is an appeal to live in alignment with the higher values. What do you believe in? What is your life for? What are the purposes that you feel pulled to pursue? What are the values that you represent? Living out these things in ways that represent the higher laws is giving to God what is God’s. It is the giving of your life force to the values that make living worthwhile.
In today’s world we might have some obligations and expectations that are important for us to keep up with during this time, but it is important not to sacrifice the higher aspects of ourselves. You might give to Caesar the taxes that you owe but give to God the life that you live. Now is not the time to trade those higher aspects to things that are not worthy of them.
Your life is valuable. Your choices are powerful. Do not doubt the power you have to influence the outcome of this time with each thought, word, and action. Your choices have implications, even if you can’t see it yet. If you could see the impact that you had on the world, if you knew that what you did and how you did it would change the outcome of this period, what would you do? What would you choose?
Now is a good time to reflect on your values and live in accordance with them. It is time to acknowledge the purpose that you feel embedded in your soul and allow it to unfold. This transition is what many of came here to be a part of. We came to help grow the new world that we could feel in our soul. The way this is done is by standing with our beliefs and finding a way to bridge the gap between higher and lower laws. It’s not going to happen overnight and it won’t be carried out by a single person or through one action. We all get to play a role in this change. It comes through each of us in the thousands of choices we make every day, in the values we stand by, and the way that we live. This is important. The power that you possess in yourself every day matters, recognize that power and then use it to create the world you want to see come into being.
